To say that season four of Skins was bad is an understatement; it was excruciatingly painful to watch, especially knowing how much potential this generation had following the finale of season three all those months ago.
Don’t worry cause there’ll be a new season you say. Well, unfortunately Skins isn’t like every other show on TV, the producers and writers replace the entire cast after two seasons, so there is no way back for the likes of Freddie, Effy, Cook, JJ, Naomi, Pandora, Emily, Katie, and Thomas.
*spoiler alert* I’m still very much in shock over Freddie’s very random and sudden death at the hands of Effy’s very demented therapist John Foster. This season’s story arcs and character development were awful; Naomi, the normally confident and independent young woman, was reduced to an insecure bystander; Effy is clinically crazy (I mean we knew she had issues, but still) and meets a psychopathic murderer; Cook goes to prison and escapes but still isn’t in custody; Thomas, who we have never seen doing athletics of any sorts, goes to Harvard on a runner’s scholarship whilst Pandora, the very same blur Pandora, ends up going to the same university as Thomas because she is suddenly a genius!
The season finale was cringe-worthy; for an award-winning and critically-acclaimed show, the writers really seemed to be rushed into developing an eight-episode season. Effy, the only Skins character to have been involved in all four seasons, was very much left on the sidelines with no apparent ending, oblivious to the fact that her boyfriend is in fact dead; scant consolation for one of the most colourful if messed-up ice queens on television.
My only hope for season five, which is months away, is that they at least link it with the previous season, at least giving the fans a glimpse of what happened after Cook confronted Foster for brutally murdering his best friend.
Well, at least Naomi and Emily ended up together =S
